Right Time, Right Place
March 6, 2022A bend in the Rio Chama had been a subject in other years and seasons. Here, the river has carved its way down from the Colorado Plateau through rocks and sandstones from the Jurassic era. This time, I saw it on a late Feb. Sunday mid-day, in bright sun on the way to SW Colo. It was a total no-go for a photo. But the snow-covered mountains (only snow on NE sides due to melting) intrigued me and I thought there might be a possibility for something there. I planned my drive back Monday so I’d pass by this area near sunset. It had been cloudy and threatening snow in Colo. and northern New Mexico all day, and I didn’t have much hope for anything. But a bit of sun started leaking through just before sunset and just before I got to this area. The light turned out to be fantastic for about three or four of the 15 minutes I stayed in the area.
